Movies of February Review

The Artist
Wow...If you are a fan of black and white movies, old movies, silent moves...different movies... go see this. It was so good. I was expecting it to be good but I didn't think I would like it so much. This movies kind of long but I was never bored while watching it. The actors did such a great job in this too. I'd say this is a must see. A silent black and white movie made today...and it's actually really good! And I have to add this, Justin is not a big fan of older movies, especially black and white ones... so we went to see this for me, well at the end he said he had actually really liked it. Even said he wanted to see more black and white movies!
Chronicle
Wow. I saw the trailer for this only once, and I thought it looked pretty cool. I mean I thought it would have a lot of cheesy effects. (Well... it did maybe in like 2 or 3 parts) but this movie was so good! Have you ever wanted to fly? Or had a dream about having powers? (How exciting is that!) Then go see this, these kids live out our dreams! They make their experiences look so real, like we're flying with them through the clouds. I was so into the movie the whole way through, (even with the group infront of us talking throughout the movie) and even the ending was very well done. If you've ever seen Akira. (A great animted movie!) you'll find a few similarities, but in a good way. Definitely going to buy this movie when it comes out. Might even go see this movie again.
Edit: Oh I did see it again. :]
Jurassic Park
I know what you're thinking.. 'wait, what? Jurassic Park isn't a new movie..' Well no, it's not but I said I would keep track of and review every new movie I see in theatre. (not including the many movies we buy and the ones we watch on netflix!) It's not a new movie, but I did see it on the big screen. (So it counts, I paid to go see it!) Toronto is/was having this awesome Digital Film Fest going on for a week or so. Anyways it was so great getting to see a classic up on the big screen again. It was great having the, almost full theatre clap and cheer for it. Oh if you've never seen or heard of Jurassic Park, you need to go watch it. You'll love it. It'll make you love dinosaurs even more! And funny thing is, the dinosaurs (digital effects/animation etc.) still look good even for today.
The Woman in Black
So excited to see this and it did not disappoint! Not only was the acting good but damn that house was just creepy. If you're into horror movies def go see this one. To those of you who have seen this movie...weren't those creepy old dolls and clowns just awesome?!
Big Miracle
I love movies with animals in them. This movie was so sweet and so inspirational! You can't watch this movie and not have a good feeling inside. I walked out of the theatre smiling. Love when that happens. The best thing about this movie is that during the credits they played some of the actual reports from the real event. Wow, they did such a good job matching them up too. The whales looked so good.
Safe House
We ended up seeing this on Valentine's day, because this year it landed on cheap night so why not? And we always go see an action or horror movie on Valentine's day anyways. This movie was really good, lots of action, it never slowed down, there was never a time were I thought 'this would be the perfect time to go to the washroom'. However I ended up sitting beside this woman who had some baaad B.O and I pretty much don't remember the first big chase scene because of her. I ended up moving down a few seats after that though and enjoyed the move a lot more.
The Vow
We ended up seeing this one the day after Valentine's day. So sweet. So cute. I wasn't expecting much from this one (can we say 'fighting'?) but he was actually not bad. This movie made me laugh and I was smiling pretty much throughout the whole thing. I love good love stories. Although I wasn't a big fan of the ending, even though thats how it happened in real life.

Movies of January Review

The Devil Inside
We started off the new year with a horror movie! I love horror movies, its maybe something to do with not really knowing what's going to happen next. Unlike most movies today, I can pretty much guess the next move or who the 'bad guys is'. Which sucks because I don't want to know, I want to enjoy the movie! Anyways this one was pretty good. Some nice effects, but I hated the ending. I knew it was coming and I won't ruin it for you but I hate when they end movies like that. Overall I enjoyed this movie though, not the best horror movie but a good start to 2012. :]
The Adventures of Tintin
I grew up watching the cartoon so I had to go see this. It was pretty good, not amazing but a good movie to go see. There's a lot of action going on in this movie but at the same time it felt a bit slow. One thing that bugged me was that their heads felt like they were just a bit too big for their bodies.
The Iron Lady
I went into this movie thinking it would be like Edgar. (which I didn't really like) But it was actually better, they did such a good job on aging her. If you see this movie just look at her neck in some of the shots...wow. The acting was really good, just like in Edgar but this movie actually kept my attention even though it was pretty late. I probably wouldn't go see this again though.
A Dangerous Method
I liked this movie, but I don't really have much to say about it. The acting was good. I wasn't amazed by this movie but it wasn't horrible. It was just a good movie, but not something I would own. A very serious movie, probably not a good idea to watch it really late after a long day at work.
Beauty and the Beast 3D
Im not a huge fan of 3D movies. I actually really dislike movies that were made for 3D, just to be played in 3D. I went to go see this because it is one of my (and Justin's) favourite Disney movies. We went on the first Tuesday (cheap night) after it had come out and there were maybe 8 other people in the theatre with us. Which is pretty sad, I pictured that the theatre would be full and everyone would be singing along to the songs. Instead we just quietly sang to ourselves. After seeing my first Disney movie in 3D, I'd have to say... I wasn't impressed. The 3D just brings out all the little imperfections that would have gone unnoticed if you were watching it normally. (Belle's hands shrunk and grew a lot) All the beauty shots obviously looked great in 3D. I would recommend seeing other Disney movies in 3D, only if it was your favourite (or if you really want to support Disney). The 3D part doesn't make the movie any better.
Haywire
We went into this one thinking it would be awesome. Com'on finghting movies are always great. Plus female lead...but really this wasn't that good. The acting was just barely passable... the only thing that saved this movie for me was the awesome fight scenes. (I went with three other guys and they all hated this movie) I mean the fights looked so real! Not the regular over the top 'pow' sounds you here when someone gets punched in other movies. So if you're looking for something a bit different, something a bit more real...
Underworld Awakening
I really enjoyed this movie. They did a great job in this one, the werewolves looked kind of bad, wish they put more work into them but there were a lot of cool action shots. Obviously if you're a fan of the Underworld movies and follow them, you should go see this one. The one dude's transformation was pretty badass.
The Grey
Awesome! So awesome. If you know me, you know I love wolves. So obviously I mainly went for that part. Really good movie, Great acting...I don't know what else to say. Everyone in the theatre was actually quiet when the serious scenes came on. The one thing I didn't like, (and I already knew it was going to happen) was how the wolves were 'evil' in this movie. They were also very big. I mean wolves get big but...these ones were huge. And there's a lot of other little things that wolves normally don't do but to make this movie what it is.. well, they had to bend the rules a bit right? Everytime you see a close up of a wolf, they looked to cool!

Seen any good movies lately? :]

Movies of December Review

Weirdly, we didn't see that many movies in December. I think it's because of the new jobs. Anyways we saw these two movies the day after boxing day. Yes, both one after the other.

Sherlock Holmes - A Game of shadows
I've always been a big fan of Sherlock Holmes. If you're seen the first one, (even though this isn't considered part two) you'll love this one too. It has the same witty banter as the first one but the story isn't as strong. Not saying the story sucked, it just wasn't as strong compared to the first one.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Such a good movie! We watched the original version, the one made in 2009 that's in swedish and has subtitles. The original is so good too. It's basically the same movie, just with english speaking actors. I found that they made the girl a lot uglier looking in this version though. I liked this movie so much, I plan on reading the books soon. I will say this though, this movie isn't a good choice for a holiday movie. It's pretty dark.

Did you see any good movies in December, or recently?

Movies of November Review

Puss in Boots
This movie was so funny and good. (and I'm not just saying that because I love animated movies) The story was original, the animation was sweet and it had jokes for the whole family! If you liked the Shrek movies, (minus Shrek 3, I didn't like that one) then you'll love this one. Also any cat-lovers out there should go see this too. It's got lots of cute and funny kitty moments. Probably going to end up buying this one (again, not just cause it's an animated film) because it's just that good. Something I can see myself watching over and over.

Anonymous
So good! I loved the outfits and the style of this movie. This ones got lots of flaskbacks so it's a movie you need to sit and pay attention or you'll miss some thing. At a few spots I got a bit confused as to who was who. Oh, the acting was great too! If you haven't seen this one yet, go see it.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas
For some reason I wasn't totally in the mood to see this movie. I don't know why, but it was pretty funny anyways. If you're a big fan of them you should definatly go see this movie. This movie had all sorts of crazy going on. They totally milked the 3D part of it. (picture anytime something was thrown or was falling...) But I mean, that's what we paid to see right!?

Immortals
If you liked 300 then you'll love this one. Lots of cool fight scenes and effects. Plus seeing shirt-less good-looking men is always awesome. I didn't like how the God's outfits looked, they just looked so fake. blah. Oh, and there is obviously, a sex scene too but it's not awkward at all ad very short.

J. Edgar
I was so interested in this movie. The trailer looked so good...well I was a bit disappointed. The movie was well done, but felt very long and had no real climax. In the end I was bored and felt like I should have walked out on this movie (which I have only ever done once) and go home to catch up on some sleep.

Happy Feet Two
Yes. I was so excited about this! I loved Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two did not disappoint. If you are a fan of Happy Feet, then this is a must see for you. The begining was good but the movie just got better as it went on. The side story with the krill was probably my favourite. I love when I come out of the movies in such a good mood.

P.S. Just want to say that the views expressed in this post are my own. By that I mean, you may have loved a movie and I may hated it. It's just my opinion. :]

Claire's Scented When Dry Nail Polish Review

A while ago I saw these three bottles of scented nail polish in Claire's and I just had to have them!

I was first drawn to the pink strawberry scented nail polish. Then I saw the green watermelon and purple bubble gum.

When they say 'scented when dry' they mean it! I smelt the nail polish when I first went into the store and it smelt so bad. So I put some of the pink strawberry on my one nail and kept looking around the store. A few minutes later I put my hand to my face and all I could smell was yummy strawberry!

This nail polish has some glitter inside each bottle. I'm not a huge fan of glitter in my nail polish but this glitter is so small. You don't really notice it unless you look closely.

I'd have to say the best and most scented nail polish would have to be first the pink strawberry, then the purple bubble gum and then the green watermelon. The strawberry and bubble gum smell so good. Unfortunately the watermelon does not smell like watermelon to me, (and it doesn't smell that good) I'm not sure what it smells like really.

Personally, I like the look of the pink the most but you have to put on an extra coat of it. The purple went on the smoothest and took only two coats.

The next day after I showered, I could still smell my nails pretty well. (mmm) I ended up doing this to my nails later on in the day. I wanted more colour!

My nails smelt pretty fruity! I ended up putting a top coat on after I added more nail polish and could still smell the scents. (yes, even the next day with a top coat.)

Pretty sure these were designed more for little girls but they make my nails smell so good. So who cares!

The only downside is that after a day or two the nail polish will start to chip off. (like all nail polish) but I felt like these chipped a lot faster.

I only found these three scents at my local Claire's store but I searched online and found they have a bunch more.
I'll find that cotton candy scented nail polish and it will be mine!

P.S. Just wanted to say the I have no affiliation with Clarie's, (but wouldn't that be awesome?) I just really like this product. :]

Movies of October Review

I'm going to be starting a new feature on my blog. I'll be doing reviews of the movies, but only of the ones that I went to go see in theatre for that month. We typically see anywhere from 3 - 6 movies a month in theatre. I thought about doing movie reviews that include the ones I've watched on Netflix too but that's just way too many movies.
We watch a lot of movies. We own a lot of movies. We like movies.

Drive
I love the soundtrack, especially the first song. This movie was kinda slow in some parts and had some very awkward moments. (Some people were giggling in the theatre. Okay, I was too sometimes.) There are some really good moments in the movie where the character does something you don't expect. This makes those scenes very intense because the main character comes off as very quiet. After the movie I came out thinking the movie was 'okay' but then days after I kept thinking about some the the scenes from it, and listening to the soundtrack. So it grew on me and now I think its awesome!

50/50
Going into this movie, I forgot that It was about cancer... anyways I ended up crying a lot. (which I almost never do during movies) The first half of the movie is very funny and light heart-ed, the second half gets more serious though. Great acting in this one and overall a really good movie. (Good movie for cuddling.) Definitely purchase worthy.

Moneyball
I liked this movie, but at the same time I don't think I'd watch it again. It felt very long and I didn't like how it ended.

Real Steal
I went into this movie just for the cool looking robots. It turned out it was actually pretty good. The fighting scenes were really well done and I was totally getting into them. The little kid in this movie is pretty cute and even though there's a lot of cheesy moments in the movie, its okay the robots are cool looking! A great family movie or if you're looking for a good feel-good movie.

The Ides of March
Started off how I thought it would, typical political movie. So I assumed I'd be bored by the halfway mark. Nope. Bring on the drama! About half way through the movie got so much more interesting and intense. On the other hand most of the drama was pretty predictable. (which I hate!) At some points though, I actually forgot I was in the theatre because I was so into the movie. (I love when that happens, don't you?)

The Thing
I was very excited about seeing this movie because I love horror movies! I love the 1982 version of 'The Thing', but I just want to let people know that this version is supposed to be a prequel not a remake. (Even I thought it was a remake until the very end of the movie) This was an awesome movie, the CGI was through the roof. I was freaking out and fully disturbed. If you're a fan of the 1982 version, then go see this one, a great horror movie propbably the best I've seen all year!

Paranormal Activity 3
First off I just want to say, If you haven't seen Paranormal Activity 1 & 2, you should. They're pretty good for horror/suspense movies. (Especially Paranormal Activity 2.) Anyways, this movie was pretty good. (I was expecting a lot more though, I guess people were hyping it up too much ... and I listened.) The movie wasn't too long and it felt like it was moving pretty quickly, unlike Para 1, where It moved a bit too slow. This movie also had a lot more effects in it, which is always cool but at the same time they would move past the slower 'time-to-develop-the-story-and-characters' spots and just go straight to the cool effects. I guess thats what a lot of people what. But not me, I like my story! (Thats why I liked Para 2 so much, It's got a perfect balance of suspense, and effects) Overall this movie was a bit of a disappointent.

You should probably stop reading here, cause I'm going to complain a bit...

Rant 1: For some reason, The Thing is/was getting bad reviews because people can't stop comparing it to the first one. Com'on people, just watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is. Stop going into a movie that's a prequal/remake and judging it on that! If you do just save your money, you've already decided what you think about the movie before you've even watched it.

Rant 2: Why do people talk during movies? I don't understand you pay anywhere from $8 - $16 for a ticket and you decide to waste it talking? Go outside and talk, it's free. Im tired of having to see that couple in the corner behind us, or sometimes even infront of us and telling them to shut up! (and usually they're way older than us too.) I'm not talking about a little whisper here and there. "Oh that part was cool" or "I'll be back, I have to pee". I'm talking full on conversations about what they did that day or what they ate. You show up late to the movie and then decide to talk and then talk even louder when the movie gets louder? I'm sorry is the movie inturrupting your talk? Argh!!

Rant 3: Turn off your cell phones! I'm tired of hearing; "Hey, who's this? Ohhh...naw, I'm at the movies. Yeah, the movies. The moooviessss. Well, what do you want to do? Well text me cause I'm at the movies." (This guy was 3 seats from me!) Then after he kept checking his cell and all I could see was a bright light always on my right side. What gets me too, is that no one ever says anything!? This isn't okay! There were people sitting infront and behind him. They did nothing!

Have you seen any of these movies? What did you think of them?

P.S. Just want to say that the views expressed in this post are my own. By that I mean, you may have loved a movie and I may hated it. It's just my opinion. :]
