Bows

The past two days I have been making bows like crazy. It's so fun! I bought and thrifted a bunch of fabric last week. Im hoping to sell them at the Fan Expo and then online maybe?

Weekend of Painting stuff

Last weekend (I wanted to post there sooner but I never found the time.) I decided to paint some of my 4x6 frames and hang up some of my artwork finally.

And there they are hanging on 'my' wall. Not really my wall, I can hang them wherever I want  but this wall and the other wall (see those photos in the back? That's my 'photography wall') are just little areas that I can do and put up whatever I want. I want to get another shelf and obviously put up some more stuff.

While I was painting my frames, Justin was painting his old little book shelf. Since Most of our stuff is black... except my red table and the wall shelves are dark brown.

And there is the after photo. Yes we collect figurines, mostly superhero ones. I don't like my nesting dolls there, I want them high up on their own shelf one day.

Have you ever re-painted an old shelf or table? I think it's fun.

This weekend we're just chilling.

A little mushroom

Remember when I said I was going to try embroidery!?

Well I tried it. I like it. Yes I know this is very small and simple but Im proud of it.

Does anyone else do embroidery? Whats the best kind of material to work with? Or any tips?

Dream Catcher

Growing up I remember always having a dream catcher in my room. The other day I decided to make my own little dream catcher. I'm not gonna lie though, I bought a dream catcher kit from the dollar store... but it didn't come with any instructions! I've never made one before and I probably should have looked online a bit to get an idea of what I was doing.

Well, I had fun and that's all that matters. I watched some videos afterwards and I found out I was pretty close. I just ended up using a lot of glue.

This was what was in my little kit. A metal hoop, some feathers, beads, string, a plastic needle (didn't really need it) and some leather strips. You can get most of these things from a dollar store, craft store, and stores like walmart. (I love walmart.) I think the hardest thing to find would be the hoop and leather. You could always use a bracelet, a strong necklace or basically anything that's a circle! Instead of leather you could always use other coloured string/yarn/fabric. I'm thinking to make another one with colourful yarn.

First I started wrapping the leather around my hoop. This was my first try, I think I was supposed to tie the ends together. Well I sucked at it so I got out my hot glue gun and glued the ends down.

See? much better! Glue and tape fixes everything.

Then I just went all over the place with the string. You basically make little loops with your string all around your hoop. You keep going until you can't anymore. Pop in a bead once in a while too. Next time I think I'll make the loops a lot closer together.

I think I was supposed to tie the bull thingy onto the hoop somehow... but I just ended up gluing it down.

And finally, the feathers... I didn't use the feathers from the kit. Instead I used my own colourful feathers. I glued them together and hid the glue with the beads. But really you're supposed to tie them together. See they make a rainbow? :]

Have you ever made a dream catcher? Am I the only one that used glue?

Cleaning up

We have this great built-in corner shelf in our dining room. When we moved in, we just threw a whole bunch of stuff on it and pretty much left it. I've been sort of using it to store all our craft supplies, paints and other randoms.
The other day I decided it was time to organize it!

Almost half those paint bottles we're all dried up.
Starting from the top shelf (on the 'after' photo); random papers, our prints and other things that I would like to be out but I don't need them all the time so they can go on the highest shelf...where I can't reach them without help. Then some more random things like frames, pins, tape, our collection of 3D glasses. Next shelf is where I keep my cameras, film (not all cameras are present in this photo) and other related stuff. Then there's the crafty shelf, with pencils, crayons, glue, feathers, buttons, glitter etc. Lastly is the shelf with all the paint supplies.

Let's see how long this stays clean.

Spiral Art

I have been looking for a Spiral set for a long time. Guess where I found this baby? At the dollar store! Silly me, I was looking online and in thrift stores for one this whole time.

Here are some scanned doodles of some spirals I did. These are a bit rough and messy looking, I guess I was pressing too hard or something?

Aw, these are so pretty. The lower row are my favourites, especially the middle one.

Did anyone else ever play with Spiral kits/sets when they were little? I used to play with these at my babysitters house, and I remember being pretty awesome with them.

P.S. I tried doing a few with markers instead of pens but the markers don't dry fast enough and end up making a big mess!

Pumpkin Time

Melted Crayons

I first saw the idea over on Stelabird Blog. (Went searching on the net and found what I think is the original link here or here.) Obviously what caught my attention were all the pretty colours, and I thought to myself, 'hey I got some old crayons...'

EDIT: Decided to add some steps/tips to this. :]



YOU WILL NEED:

• Any size canvas (Stiff paper)
  
• Crayons!
• Glue (Hot glue gun)
  
• Hair blow dryer

I used a much smaller canvas and way less crayons.

1. Glue your crayons in any order onto your canvas/stiff paper.
2. Start blow drying! You also might want to lay down some newspaper on the ground if you're doing this indoors like I did.



TIPS:

> Instead of canvas, you could also use cardboard or any kind of stiff paper.
> You don't need to use hot glue for the crayons, (it's probably better though) I used just a plain glue stick. When the crayons start melting they'll stick themselves to the canvas and each other anyways.
> You want the blow dryer on its hottest setting but maybe on its lowest 'power' setting. If your blow drying is on its highest power setting, when the crayons start melting they'll be splashing everywhere and making more of a mess.

That one crayon just wouldn't melt!

Pressed Flowers

Before I left for my month-long trip I put some flowers I found outside in one of my Animation Books. I remembered today about them... and I though it would be fun to play around with scanning them.

p.s. yes our scanner is so old and dirty.

Old Artwork

Time for the Artwork!
A lot of these were done while I was in high school. My Art Teachers liked to use a lot of gouache and pen and ink. So that ended up being what I used the most too. Now I do most of my work on the computer.

I think this was one of my first paintings I did with gouache. I think we had to do a winter theme...

I remember sketching this in my sketchbook one summer, through a thunderstorm while visiting the States. Finished with gouache.

I've always liked this one a lot. I like the eyelashes and face the most but I wish I did something different with the nose. It bugs me!
Also finished with gouache.

I think I was watching something by Tim Burton when I was sketching this one? Anyways this was also done in gouache.

And this! I am so proud of this. Right now its in my room at my Moms place. I remember I thought I would screw it up but I love how it turned out. Every time I see it I wanna go make another one but I never go and get fabric.
This was all handmade. Not even by a sewing machine. All done by my little hands.
p.s. sorry if you don't like clowns. I love clowns.
